Finding comfortable shirts to wear to the gym has been an ongoing issue for me. At 5′ 9″ I’m pretty tall and have a long torso, plus I still have a very fat stomach. The shirts they make for fat people suck because they are super wide but are also very short.
I HATE when my shirts ride up, and when they are short in length it doesn’t help. It puts me in a bad mood.
The shirts I seem to like the best are simple, gray, cotton tee-shirts. I also would prefer v-necks instead of regular scoop necks. It’s nice to not feel like you’re not being choked by your t-shirt when you’re exercising. V-necks are hard to find in women’s sizes and even in men’s sizes you can only find white.
As I recently attempted to purchase a pack of white v-necks, my husband reminded me what can happen when you sweat as much as I do – and wear a white shirt.
Okay, this is actually a Halloween Costume and they’re not “real”. Of
course I wouldn’t look this way anyhow, but I thought it was a good
example of what could happen if you wear white and sweat.
Anyway, I’ve been kicking around the idea of putting some simple, funny sayings on some quality v-neck t-shirts. I’ve been thinking about it so much that I’ve already talked to a local screen printing company (whom also happens to be one of my clients – how convenient) about making some stock shirts up and giving some away to the people I workout with at the gym – and maybe even possibly selling some on the side or in conjunction with my trainer at the gym. How cool would that be?
Here are some of the ideas I was kicking around for text on the t-shirts:
Be Aware [ I've seen this elsewhere and think it's a GREAT message ]
No complaining allowed
I’m not anonymously fat anymore
Recently out of fat denial
anonymous fat girl
Here are some ideas I’ve seen on the web:
In my mind I’m a Kenyan
My trainer is awesome (It was either buy this shirt or do another set)
Never quit. Never give up. (Because if you do we’ll start over.)
I’d rather be waterboarding
There has to be other plus size people out there that want something comfy to exercise in and decent quality, right? I’m at the point where I’m doing up some simple designs to send off to my t-shirt contact and was looking for some suggestions.
1. Are there certain things you look for in a comfy t-shirt?
2. What sayings would you find funny or interesting on a workout t-shirt?
P.S. If you submit a great saying that I decide to have printed, I will mail you a shirt in your requested size free of charge. So give me some ideas! :)

I suck at interesting sayings, I’m just not real quick-witted. Although right now I’d be tempted to go with “I’m not pregnant, I’m fat”….
Anyway, comfort wise… your regular round necks but not too snug around the neck. I have never found a good V-neck that didn’t show too much cleavage on me because if I get one large enough to fit my gut then it’s usually way to big for my boob area (the only place I’m NOT really big!). If I feel bound, I get panic attacky — same for the sleeves, the pits should be roomy. I’m not tall but I’m with you, I hate when my shirt rides up. Mostly I like my shirts HUGE — for exercise or regular wear…

I like “My trainer is awesome…” and “No complaining allowed.” I FINALLY found some great gym clothes. Ross has an activewear section & I found a cute outfit for cheap.

I am not clever enough to come up with anything but I bet I will think of a saying next time I am at the gym! I agree on the neck thing… I hate feeling choked. I really prefer not to wear cotton though… I like something that wicks sweat. I am short so don’t have the same problem. Good luck:)

I’m going to have to check into other fabrics. My contact at the t-shirt shop said they have some high performance fabrics that are great.

you had some clever ideas!
hmmmm.. how about something like “hiding under here is a fit chick waiting to get out” (and it could be a picture of a baby chick)?
i always work out in wicking, or they are called technical, shirts. this means that instead of getting wet, heavy and icky, these shirts (and pants/shorts) pull the sweat, wick it, off your body. they are awesome and so much more comfy in my opinion.

Duh!!! That may be one of the best sayings of all of them, huh? If I use that I’ll also have to give Harry a t-shirt since I believe he’s the one who told me it in the beginning. :)

I like comfy t-shirts to work out in too. But I just don’t seem to find any. I also like the v necks because they don’t “choke” me like the other ones. I have to agree with you that the womens sizes seem to be very wide and short. I don’t get that.
I like any of the saying so far. If I come up with one, I will let you know.

I made a tshirt once when I was working out at the Y.
“i’m like two hot chicks rolled into one”
Loved that dang shirt. And totally not diet related, but my
favorite I have made was ” all men are idiots and I married their king” I still wear that ratty thing :)

Just discovered your blog via a shout out at Jack Sh*t and I’ll definitely be following your progress from now on.
As another tall gal (6 foot, in my case) I hear what you’re saying with the too-short t-shirts! :(
Bye for now

I loathe the too-short shirts, too, and that’s about all you can find in the sweat-wickers.
When I was working out at the gym regularly, I thought about getting a t-shirt that said: “I lift. Get over it, and get out of my way.” A subtle message to the guys. :) Hmm, I still may do that one, so no, you can’t have it. :)
Have an awesome weekend!

You know, I actually buy “big guys” t-shirts for the gym. For some reason, they make guys t-shirts *just right*. They don’t hug anywhere excessively or hang too much. When I say big guy I mean the big and tall with the T at the end of it. For tall people. Which, I am not. A tall person that is. But I love the 3XLT t-shirts for dudes! :)
